§ IX — The practice

How Nightshift works.

Ten seconds in the morning, and one thing worth changing tonight. The whole method fits on a sheet.

Nightshift is built for the adjustment period — the first weeks and months on CPAP, when the therapy is sound and everything around it is still wrong. The method is deliberately small, because a coach you have to make time for is a coach you stop opening.

i. Log last night

Hours you kept the mask on, whether the mask gave you trouble, and the figure your machine showed. That is the whole entry — about ten seconds, done with coffee, before the night has finished being annoying.

You enter the numbers from your machine's own app. Nightshift does not read your device directly, which also means there is no account holding your therapy anywhere but your phone.

ii. See where you actually stand

Most insurers keep covering the machine only if you use it at least four hours on roughly seventy per cent of nights within an early window. Nightshift shows your nights against that bar plainly, so nobody finds out where they stand from a letter.

The chart is honest about noise. One short night after a cold or a late glass of wine is a short night. A slow drift across a fortnight is a signal, and it is named as one.

iii. Catch the leak before it wakes you

Tag a night as leaking and the pattern surfaces — which is usually enough to tell an over-tightened strap from a cushion that has hardened with wear from a mask style that was never right for a side sleeper.

A leak is not only a comfort problem. Air escaping means pressure escaping, so a leaking week and a bad-numbers week are usually the same week wearing two different faces.

iv. Take the week to your clinician

Nightshift coaches comfort: fit, humidity, exhale relief, ramp, mask style. It does not touch prescribed pressure — that dial belongs to your sleep clinician.

When the answer is clinical, the written week goes with you: what you tried, which nights were bad, and what the numbers did. Eleven minutes of appointment goes considerably further with that in hand than without it.

Why we made it

The clinic gives you a machine, a mask, and about five minutes. Then you go home and meet the four-in-the-morning version of the problem alone. Most people who abandon CPAP do it early, over things with a fix.

Nightshift is the patient part nobody staffed: coaching through the hundred nights that decide whether the machine ends up beside the bed or in a closet.

Educational and coaching only. Nightshift is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not an FDA-cleared device. Your sleep clinician sets your pressure and your settings.
